A calf saving device that saves time
The Moocall Calving Sensor is a device that predicts when a cow or heifer is going to calve. Our calving alert system lets you know the moment she needs your assistance.
Keeping watch, so you don't have to
The Moocall Calving Sensor monitors your pregnant cow so that you can get on with running your farm.
- 1-2 hour advance warning before she calves
- Alerts to up to two phones, plus email and app
- Works where your mobile signal does not
One SMS, sent at just the right moment
Get an SMS when your cow is ready to calve.
- Alerts sent to up to 2 phones
- 1-2 hours before she calves
- Also by email and by a loud "Moo" sound with the free BreedManager app
Difficult calvings put more than time at risk
Reduce calf mortality in difficult calving. Teagasc figures show 2.5% of all calvings result in calving mortality.
If you saved one calf, the device has paid for itself.

How does the calving sensor work?
A tail-mounted motion sensor measures specific tail movements, the behaviour a cow shows in the run-up to calving. It gathers around 600 pieces of data every second to spot the pattern that means labour is starting.
Charge it up
Give the sensor a full charge before the season starts. One charge lasts over four weeks of monitoring.
Turn it on
Press and hold the button for 3-4 seconds until you see multi-coloured lights. The sensor is now looking to connect to cellular networks. Once connected the light will turn blinking blue.
Strap it to the tail
Strap it onto the tail opposite the vulva of the cow or heifer. Non-slip grip, longer straps for bigger tails.
Get the alert
Sends an alert 1-2 hours before she calves. Notifications are through SMS texts (up to 2 phones), email and app alert.
Common questions
Moocall continuously monitors changes in your cow's tail movement and is designed to alert you when increased activity indicates that calving is approaching, typically giving you around 1-2 hours' warning. Based on our development tests, it has a 95% accuracy rate.
Your first year of service is included with your new Moocall Calving Sensor. After the first year, an annual renewal is required to keep the sensor connected and continue receiving alerts.
No. Moocall uses the cellular network, so you do not need Wi-Fi in your calving shed or field. Once connected, alerts are sent directly to your phone.
Yes. The Moocall calving sensor can be used in calving sheds, barns and outdoors, provided there is sufficient cellular coverage for the sensor to connect.
Yes. The sensor is designed for cows and heifers across different cattle breeds. It attaches to the tail, so it is not dependent on the size or breed of the animal.
Yes. Moocall is designed to be moved from cow to cow as they get close to calving.
With the charge cap closed the device is water-resistant, but it is still electronic. Use a damp cloth or brush, and remove and wash the inner rubber as needed. Never submerge it in water.
We usually recommend one sensor per 30-40 cow herd, depending on your calving spread. A tight calving window can often be managed with one or two sensors moved between cows as they come close to calving.
